What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of the word, demolition? If you are like most people, you think about the tall buildings that are often destroyed through use of explosives, and they collapse in on themselves in a rather remarkable way. The fact of the matter is, however, explosives can be used for a wide variety of reasons outside of the building demolition that is often quite remarkable to see on video.
One area where explosives are routinely used is in a rock quarry. It makes short order of the work, and allows the larger pieces of rock to be turned into rubble, so that they can be collected and used for a variety of purposes. These rock quarries can be found in many parts of the world, but something interesting happened in Norway.
The quarry needed to produce over 360,000 ton of rock, so they drilled hundreds of holes along the rock face, and inserted over 68 tons of dynamite. What resulted was the largest blast in Norwegian history, and you get to see it from a number of angles in this remarkable video.
