I am not a huge movie buff, and as a consequence I don’t get all that excited about the Oscars or any other awards show for that matter. These actors get very well paid and in a strange way I kind of feel why should they get an award just for doing their job.
Perhaps I am just bitter and twisted or getting old, and if the viewing figures are anything to go by I am obviously very much in the minority. The final thing about awards shows that really turns me off are the overly long thank-you speeches from the winners, mentioning all these people that the viewing audience don’t even know.
That’s why this acceptance speech from Patty Duke was so brilliant, original and magical. Watch it for yourself and see if you agree with me or if I have just become old and grumpy.
