There is an area in the Atlantic Ocean that stretches down into the Caribbean Sea located off of the southeast coast of the United States. It is typically referred to as the Bermuda triangle, as one of the corners is located in Bermuda, another in Puerto Rico and another on the southern tip of Florida. Over the years, popular culture has attributed this area to many mysterious disappearances, along with the possibility for extraterrestrial beings.
One ship that went down in the area was the SS Cotopaxi, a ship that left Charleston Harbor in December, 1925 headed for Havana, Cuba. This was no small ship, it was 253 feet long and was carrying a cargo of coal, along with a crew of 32 individuals. As it turns out, that fateful trip would be its last.
On December 1, 1925, a radio call came in that the Cotopaxi was experiencing problems. According to the reports, the ship was taking on water and was listing, as it was caught in a tropical storm. After that call, the ship was never heard from again and it was officially listed as overdue, December 31, 1925. That was over 90 years ago.
