Matthew and Daniel Davis were like many newlywed couples. It had only been seven months since they said I do, and they were enjoying a happy marriage together. It was then that the unthinkable happened, and Matthew was in a severe motorcycle accident that left him in a coma. He had severe brain damage and multiple broken bones and the doctors were pressuring his wife to pull the plug.
The doctors even went so far as to draw a graph on a board to let her know that 90% of people who have that injury will not regain consciousness. The doctor told her that if it was him, he would want the family to pull the plug. Danielle had other ideas.
Miraculously, Matthew not only survived the accident but he woke up from the coma as well. Things weren’t completely easy and they certainly weren’t out of the woods at that point. He didn’t remember her, because he had lost his memory and he began the long road of recovery, including plenty of physical therapy. For these two individuals, in sickness and in health takes on a whole new meaning.
