Snorkeler Shows Porcupine Fish Some Much Needed Love

It seems to be almost a daily experience where we end up reporting and showing a video on the site about some poor marine animal trapped in an old fishing net. The amount of debris and destruction mankind causes both shocks and angers me no end.

This one takes quite a lot of guts and effort from the diver in question. First of all he doesn’t have a knife or proper tool to affect the rescue, so he has to compromise and he ends up using a broken bottle to cut open the net. But the animal is question is a porcupine, and if any of those numerous spikes, come into contact with human skin, the end result can be fatal to the diver. So by providing this act of kindness, he is actually putting his life at risk.

But the other thing that is special about this video, and that I wanted to draw your attention to, was the fact that if you look closely you will see there is another little fish who stays close by the entire time. With a human nearby you might expect the other fish to scatter and swim away. But apparently porcupines which can live up to ten years forge friendship bonds either with fellow ocean dwellers, or occasionally with human caregivers, so the little fish may well be the porcupine’s best friend, who stays with him in times of trouble. That’s what you call true friendship. Watch the video below and admire a job well done.
