I will admit to having a bit of an unhealthy obsession with old buildings, especially abandoned ones. There are videos online where drones have flown over disused amusement parks and they absolutely fascinate me. I think back to the days when they were busy, the screams and shouts of happy children having fun, and it makes me think.
Well, it seems I am not alone in this pastime, although the difference between me and the man in this video Charles Shaw is that he has both the skills and the finances to be able to turn something old and abandoned into something simply amazing.
In 1996, he and his wife purchased an abandoned high school in Durango Colorado. The 45,000 square feet buildings were in need of a lot of work , but Charles was well aware that the walls themselves and therefore, the structure was solid. His initial dream was to design a place where artists could come together, but his first job was to control the costs. Initially, it was costing $5000 dollars a month in utility bills alone just to run the place. Today after a lot of work and technical innovations that are down to $300 per month. Watch the video below and prepare to be amazed by just how much Charles has achieved. It truly is a spectacular renovation.
