If you see a dog drinking from a puddle, you might want to make them stop. There is a deadly type of disease caused by a bacteria that comes from the urine of other animals. The disease is known as Leptospirosis and it causes liver and kidney failure with symptoms of vomiting, increased thirst, diarrhea, fatigue and fever.
This isn’t a new disease but there seems to be new strains that make it more difficult to avoid. The treatment is controversial because it can cause diarrhea and vomiting as a side effect. The treatment can also be fatal. If your dog is showing any of the symptoms, take them to a veterinarian right away.
