He Could Have Won The Race But He Helped His Brother Finish It Instead

It seems as if much of the world is completely focused on winning, but there are some who recognise that winning is not always the most important thing in the competition. That became perfectly clear to the individuals who are watching the world triathlon series in Cozumel, Mexico. A man by the name of Alistair Brownlee was on his way to finishing the race first but, in order to win, he would have had to pass his brother by on his way to the finish line.

There were fewer than 1000 m left to go before he won the race and this 28-year-old man and his 26-year-old brother, Jonathan, were in the lead. It was at that point that Jonathan became so exhausted that it overwhelmed him and he started to falter.

Alistair had the ability to run by his brother and finish in first place, but he knew that he would have had no chance in the overall season. He stopped to help his brother and allowed a South African runner to pass by and take the lead. It is an act of selflessness that is worthy of imitation.
