Charmiane Carr, who is the actress best known for playing the oldest Von Trapp child in The Sound of Music has died. She passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Ms. Carr was 73 years old. Prior to the time that she passed away, she had been suffering from a rare form of dementia.
The role that Charmiane was best known for was playing Liesel Von Trapp, the eldest daughter of the Von Trapp family. She was in the film along with Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer and a number of other well-known actors. During the time that the film was made, 51 years ago, she was 21 years old.
Although there are a number of memorable moments from her performance on The Sound of Music, she is perhaps best known for singing the song “Sixteen Going on Seventeen.” The President of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization, Ted Chaplin, made the following statement: “It’s always sad when a member of the family passes away – and in the case of the ‘family’ of the film ‘The Sound of Music,’ it’s especially sad when it is the first of the group to go.” May she rest in peace.
