We often marvel at wild animals and many of us take the time to learn more about them any time the opportunity presents itself. That is especially true of elephants, that are known for being quite intelligent. In fact, there is an old saying that “An elephant never forgets,” and there seems to be some validity to that statement.
From time to time, however, things may happen within the herd that are sad. That is true of this baby elephant, that was born sick and was eventually abandoned by her mother and the herd. She had lost all interest in life and, in most cases, she would have lost her life without access to proper care. She was suffering from a large umbilical abscess and septicemia.
Fortunately, she was rescued and taken to the Thula Thula Rhino Orphanage in South Africa. They discovered she was intolerant to milk and they gave what was needed to keep her healthy. They also gave her a name, Ellie. As she got stronger, they realized that she needed a friend and you are not going to believe who came in to fill that order.
