Many of us have heard about the condition known as narcolepsy at some time in the past, and there have even been many amusing scenes in films in which they depict somebody with narcolepsy spontaneously falling asleep. As you are about to see, however, it is anything but a funny condition. It is a sleeping disorder that causes uncontrollable sleep/wake cycles and it may even result in sleep attacks, in which the person spontaneously falls asleep for a few seconds or a few minutes.
At times, the condition of narcolepsy can be further complicated by a condition known as cataplexy. Cataplexy results in a sudden loss of muscle control and keeps a person from being able to move. Sarah Elizabeth suffers from both of these conditions and she was filming a video when she suddenly had an attack of both cataplexy and narcolepsy. The results are somewhat concerning to watch.
They say that you should never judge a person until you have walked in their shoes and that is certainly the case with anyone who has a serious medical condition. Narcolepsy will continue to be the subject of jokes but, now that you understand it more, you may not laugh quite so hard when they are told.
