Heroes live in the world around us, although there are many times when we don’t recognise them until they do something amazing. That was the case with Renita Smith, who was a school bus driver that was recently thrust into the spotlight. The students began smelling smoke on the back of the bus and before Renita was able to call the transportation center, the bus was on fire.
Renita led the children off of the bus and continued to go back until all of them were safe. You can see video about this incident here. After news of what she did broke, Renita was invited to the Ellen show. She gave an interview and you find out that she is not only a hero, she is also a real person.
Not one to allow the suffering of others to continue, Ellen decides to do something amazing for this woman. She learned that she lived paycheck to paycheck, so she had a check for her and presented her with $20,000! We feel that if anybody deserves such a prize, this real-life hero does.
